| Dolphinarium closed for reconstruction till May of 2012.
Since 2001, special communication between children and dolphin has been going on. In other parts of the world, this method of therapy has been applied successfully for more than thirty years. In the 1970s US scientists, who were conducting research in dolphin behaviour, noticed the beneficient effect of these animals. The research conducted at the Dolphin Research Center in Florida confirmed the positive effect of dolphins on children with autistic disorders and suffering from the Down syndrome. The common misconception is that dolphin therapy is a method of treatment. It should be known that dolphin therapy is not a treatment. Practicing doctors have noticed that dolphin therapy is most effective when it is applied together with other methods of treatment. In cases of grave communication disturbances, the very encounter with a dolphin performs the function of an ‘ice-breaker’, which stimulates positive changes in psycho-social and psycho-emotional contacts. During the dolphin therapy sessions, the results achieved by employing another method are strengthened.
